Now that it’s November, it’s officially time to start thinking about decorating for Christmas! My fireplace mantel is one of my favorite areas of the house to decorate. It’s such a gorgeous focal point of our home, especially during winter months with the fire going! So today I’m sharing a roundup of tips and ideas on how to decorate a mantel for Christmas.

How To Decorate a Mantel for Christmas
Match Your Tree
Whether your Christmas tree is in another room or right next to your mantel, a great way to create some symmetry in your home is to match them. If you’ve chosen a pine tree, then try and use a similar pine garland for your mantel. Or if you’ve used a flocked tree, try using some flocked elements in your mantle as well! This will help keep your space cohesive!
Use Festive Florals
A great way to add a pop of color to your mantel is to add some festive florals. For a touch of cheery red, add some poinsettias or holly berries. These are great for Christmastime because they’re in season and they add some lovely dimension to the display. Or if you wanted to keep your home decor more neutral, you can also use some white poinsettias or other faux florals you love!
Love to Layer
My best tip when it comes to mantle decor is layering garland! Don’t be afraid to mix it up, I love using this garland as a base layer because it has a beautiful draped effect. Then I will layer with a pretty cedar garland for more fullness, or my favorite this mixed garland which is only $30! I used it both last year and this year, and it adds such gorgeous detail and dimension to your mantle!

Mantel Decorations
Garlands
Probably one of the most popular options for Christmas mantel decor are garlands. They add the perfect touch of the beautiful outdoors inside your home. There are many different options such as pine, cedar, eucalyptus, or a mixture of all of them!

I like to use faux garlands in my decorating because they’re a more affordable and practical way of decorating your home minus the maintenance. Check out the list of my favorite faux garlands here. Also, be sure to use command hooks for hanging your garland for an easy and damage-free option!
Decorative Mini Trees
Your mantel is the perfect place to add your favorite decor pieces. I love to add little decorative trees to my Christmas displays! You can find them in all different types of colors and textures which makes them an easy addition to your decor. You can use vibrant bottle brush trees, cute stoneware ones like this one from Joss & Main, or textured wooden ones like this one from Amazon!
Ribbons
Ribbons are a great way to add some color to your mantel display. Find some colors that you like or ones that match your theme and incorporate them into your decorations! You can thread them through your garlands or tie them in beautiful bows and perch them at either end of your mantel.

Candles and Candle Holders
Another great Christmas mantel idea is using candles and candleholders! You can use candles with a fake flame if you’re worried about fire safety. Not only do they add some warmth to your display, but they can also lend some beautiful Holiday aromas as well. This candle from Amazon gives off the most incredible balsam and cedar smell that will fill your home with a warm Holiday ambiance! As for candle holders, this set of ceramic tree tea light holders is a beautiful option. The neutral color will work on any mantel and the little openings in the trees will provide a lovely Holiday glow.

Bells
There’s something about the jingle of Christmas bells during the Holidays that makes me so happy! So naturally, I love to include them in my Christmas decor as well. Large or small, these beautiful decorations are sure to draw the eye. Add a classic brass bell like this one or try a set like these gorgeous artisan handcrafted ceramic bells that I love!
Stockings
It’s not a Christmas mantel without stockings! There’s something magical about seeing them hanging above a roaring fire during Christmastime. These are another great way to add a focal point to your display and there are so many options that will match your theme!
I love this neutral knit stocking from Joss & Main for some added texture or this beautiful woven cotton one! Plus, some beautiful stocking hangers can add to your mantel decor as well. This one from Target is a great choice because it’s practical and it’s a beautiful decor piece all on its own!
