The front entryway of your house is one of the most fun areas to decorate for fall in my opinion. When thinking about how to create a fall entryway, it’s important to make it homey and welcoming as it’s the first thing that guests will see when they come over for Fall parties.

If you’re wanting to make a great first impression, then a well-decorated entryway is the way to do it! Adding touches of fall throughout the area can help you welcome the season indoors and it’s also a super easy way to change the atmosphere in your home.

Today I’m sharing practical and creative tips to help you achieve a festive yet welcoming look in your entryway.

How to Create a Fall Entryway

Tips on How to Create a Fall Entryway

1. Mix and Match Textures

You don’t want your decor to be too “matchy” because it can make the overall appearance of your entryway somewhat plain. But if you mix and match different textures then you’ll create a truly dynamic look!

This is a classic interior design rule that applies to decorating every space of your home. A wreath of dried grass paired with some smooth round pumpkins or stone planters with some vibrant flowers planted in them are perfect examples.

2. Add Greenery

Greenery adds so much life and vitality to the entryway. Plus, if you’re not a fan of cleaning up messes from dying plants, the good news is that there are lots of great faux options!

Check out my blog on Faux Fall Stems here. You can incorporate greenery by adding a wreath on the front door or planting some fall blooming flowers in your planters.

3. Add Mood Lighting

Fall is the time for all things cozy, so adding some lovely soft lighting to your entryway can make the space quite welcoming. Try placing a large lantern with a candle next to your doorway or switching out the lightbulbs from the overhead fixture with warm ones.

4. Be Selective with Decor

One mistake people often make when decorating for fall in their entryway is going overboard with decor. If you incorporate too many pieces, it can make the space look very busy and unwelcoming.

So try to be selective. Try picking a few decor pieces that you like and place them around your entryway. Don’t forget you still have the whole interior of your house to decorate too!

5. Use Fall Colors

One of the best things about decorating for Fall is using all of the vibrant and warm Fall colors! Soft oranges, rustic reds and earthy colors are some of my favorite fall colors to incorporate into my decor.

There are plenty of variations that you can use off a Fall color palette as well. You can always choose more vibrant hues or go with toned down subtle colors too!

Wreaths

When you’re thinking of how to create a fall entryway, wreaths are the first thing to use. Hanging a beautiful wreath is the perfect way to incorporate texture and color into your Fall home decor.

There are so many Fall wreath options out there! Leaves or grass, white or multicolored, pine cones or flowers, it’s all perfect Fall decor.

Welcome Mats

I love welcome mats. They’re another great way of adding texture and you can get them with lots of different cute sayings.

There are plenty that are fall-themed too, like this one from Wayfair that is so cute and a great price for under $35! I usually layer mine over a 3×5 outdoor rug like this one!

Lanterns

As I mentioned above, lanterns are a great way of adding some mood lighting to your entryway. But they’re also great as decor!

Plus if you happen to have a bench on your front porch then lanterns are a great way of making the space more cozy as well. Grab some warm throw blankets, sit on your front porch with your beautiful lanterns and make use of this inviting space!

Try adding different sizes of lanterns to your space to really add some dimension. These ones from Target are a great choice and you can find them in multiple sizes.

Planters

A Fall entryway is not complete with planters. This is such a simple decor piece but it’s also practical and these small decor ideas for your home make all the difference in a seasonal display.

You can use different textured planters on their own or you can use them to add that touch of greenery by planting some flowers. These terra cotta planters from Pottery Barn are a lovely neutral color, they come in multiple sizes, and they can be used both indoors and outdoors!

Pumpkins

Pumpkins are one of the most popular and widely used autumnal decorations and they’re guaranteed to give all the autumn vibes to your entryway for Fall. You can get them in multiple different colors, sizes, and shapes so they will work with any color scheme you’re using for your entryway.

Plus, there are plenty of faux options if you don’t want to deal with the cleanup once the season is over! These ones from Pottery Barn are a great choice because they come in 7 different colors and 2 different sizes.

Another reason I love to use faux pumpkins is because you can reuse them in other areas of your home throughout the season, like on your console table or fireplace mantle!

Baskets

Another great way to add some texture to your front porch is by adding baskets. Wicker ones in particular are great to use as decor.

They provide an earthy vibe to the space, and you can use them to showcase other pieces of Fall decor too. I also like to use them as planters for beautiful mums and this this pretty find from Amazon is one of my favorites!

Flowers/Plants

Add that greenery to your Fall entryway by incorporating some flowers or plants. Mums are a fast favorite when it comes to Fall decor as they’re easy to maintain and they’ll last for most of the season.

They come in several different Fall colors such as red, orange, yellow, purple, pink, and white. So, you can have fun mixing and matching the different colors to suit your decor.

Halloween Decor

Add a touch of “spooky” to your entryway by using some Halloween-themed decor. This is a great way to add some fun to your space.

Have a skeleton sitting on your entryway bench, stick some creepy bats to the wall, or hang some ghosts from the ceiling. Or add some jack-o-lanterns to your front stoop.

I love these metal ones from Pottery Barn, just add a candle and they provide the perfect spooky vibe for Halloween!
